AQAV Announces Winners of 2018 CQT and CQD Scholarships

Published: 2018-11-02

AQAV today announced the recipients of four CQT and CQD scholarships for increased professional development and education.

The 2018 winners are:

  • James Patterson of The Baltimore City School District
  • Shawn Sandberg of GENCOMM
  • Lory Diaz of AVI-SPL
  • Michael Johnson of Liberty University

The CQT and CQD scholarships were made possible as a result of the generosity of sponsors and industry supporters who came out to our first Music is Life fundraiser in May at the Crestron showroom in New York City.

The proceeds from this fundraiser created four full scholarships to an AQAV course of the winner’s choice.

These scholarship recipients “become the change agents for the industry, taking what they learn and infusing the knowledge into the quality management processes where they work,” says Mario Maltese, founder and chairman of AQAV’s board. [related]

“As the AV Quality Movement continues to gain strength and AV9000 is being adopted by more AV buyers everywhere, scholarships go a long way towards advancing the art for the benefit of the whole industry,” says Maltese.

“When I got the phone call from [AQAV’s] Irene [Sasso] that I had won a scholarship for design from AQAV, I was in shock, happy, and oh so grateful,” says Diaz. “To receive a scholarship means that people appreciate you and what you have set out to do.

“It’s an affirmation or confirmation of something I have done, and that motivates me to be better and achieve more,” she says.

Sandberg “didn’t even know that my boss had entered me” when he found out he was among this year’s winners.

“I had always wanted to take the AQAV classes but was waiting for the right time,” he says. “Now I have no excuse!”

AQAV is expanding and updating its course offerings, noting that “audiovisual quality management benefits all facets of the industry and all its stakeholders.” The association will release information soon about its second annual fundraiser.
