Alpha Video & Audio Acquires Video Tech

Deal increases support and integration services for Minnesota firm’s southeastern U.S. clients.

Alpha Video & Audio, Inc. announced it has acquired Video Tech Inc. of Tallahassee, Fla, an integration firm that specializes in live event and sports production, particularly for colleges and universities.

Video Tech will now operate as Video Tech, a division of Alpha Video, and provide increased support and integration services to Alpha Video’s clients in the southeastern U.S.

In a July interview with CI after Stan Stanek retired as Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Alpha Video’s president and CEO, CEO and owner Kevin Groves emphasized the importance of video production and broadcast-style integration.

“Alpha Video has been successfully growing our business nationally with academic, corporate, broadcast, casino and large sporting venue clients,” said Groves, treasurer of PSNI, in a joint press release about the acquisition.

The Alpha Video-Video Tech deal is certainly not to the magnitude of fellow PSNI member Technical Innovation being acquired earlier this year by Diversified, but fits needs for both companies. Alpha Video did $40 million worth of commercial installations in 2014.

“Acquiring Video Tech is a unique opportunity to expand our service and support coverage by adding outstanding engineering, integration, event support and SMA expertise. Greater depth of capability for the Florida office will be supplied immediately by Alpha Video’s experienced technical and administrative teams,” said Groves in the announcement.

Mike Marshall, who started Video Tech in 1990, will now be working as a senior systems engineer for Alpha Video in the Tallahassee office.

“I’ve known and contracted with Alpha Video for over 10 years and have been impressed with their professional approach to all their projects, no matter if it is a small conference room or a large stadium project,” said Marshall in the statement. “I’m excited about the wide range of system integration projects that Video Tech employees will now be able to design and bring to life.”

Video Tech will continue to operate out of its current office until a new, expanded technology center opens later this year.
