AV-over-IP is one of the prevailing topics at InfoComm 2017. Dozens of companies are releasing new products related to the contested distribution system, while industry pundits speculate if the matrix switcher’s presence will increasingly fade from future trade shows.

The turnout of AV-over-IP products suggests the solution to distribute high-resolution formats such as 4K with HDR and object-based surround sound is shifting. Leading its implementation are companies and services that support the professional broadcast and post production industries. Other commercial markets, including the education and corporate markets, are also implementing AV over IP, and over in the residential electronics market, large-scale, whole-house AV systems are increasingly utilizing these technologies.
Founding member of SDVoE Alliance Justin Kennington says that the matrix switcher, formerly the favorite distribution system, is nearly dead. Meanwhile, the Alliance, charged with speeding up the transition to AV-over-IP, will compare some of the many solutions during InfoComm.
ZeeVee, an official InfoComm International Renewal Unit (RU) Provider, will hold its ZyPer AV over IP Training. The course is designed to help educate system integrators and AV installers on the new technologies available to enable IP-based media distribution solutions. The course covers the basics of IP as an introductory phase – covering topics such as the 7-Layer OSI reference model, IP addressing and switching technologies. It then provides hands-on training with the ZyPer4K system.
