BenQ Introduces LK936ST 4K Laser Projector for Golf Simulation

Published: January 11, 2022

BenQ, the Costa Mesa, Calif. provider of visual display solutions, released the LK936ST 4K laser projector in its Laser DLP lineup built for home and commercial golf simulators.

The 4K UHD 5,100 ANSI lumen LK936ST laser projector features 92% Rec. 709 color coverage for incredibly realistic golf course hues. It also has 20,000 hours of maintenance-free use and robust features for easy, flexible installation. It is currently priced at $5,849 MSRP.

Moreover, the LK936ST projector combines the high-brightness and resolution required for golf simulation with the contrast and color accuracy demanded by home cinema and gaming. Thus, it lets users combine the best of both worlds in the same room for a “SimTheater” complete entertainment experience.

Bob Wudeck, senior director of business development at BenQ America Corp., expands on the development of the LK936ST. According to Wudeck, the simulation market surged strongly as golf enthusiasts look for ways to perfect their swing even when they can’t get to the course.

He adds, “So we built the LK936ST, offering everything a golf sim projector needs to create a truly lifelike, immersive experience. The 4K resolution is a must to provide the kind of realistic detail that is now standard in every home entertainment experience. And the laser technology enables the projector to deliver the high brightness required for use in a well-lit room, as well as groundbreaking contrast and color accuracy that all play a crucial role in golf simulation.”

Wudeck further states that the projector helps resolution, brightness, contrast and color come together. The golfer then enjoys the full experience of the green field, the blue sky or even the waves on the water of their favorite course.

Realistic Color, Increased Focus

According to BenQ, the LK936ST delivers both high brightness and amazing color accuracy with 92% of the Rec. 709 color gamut. It also features an exclusive golf color mode.

With a touch of the Golf Mode button, the projector references the natural blue skies and realistic green grass from popular golf software, immersing golfers in the world’s most celebrated courses. It has seven other picture modes. Thus, it can optimize the experience for home theater, gaming and other entertainment scenarios.

Additionally, the LK936ST leverages Texas Instruments’ DLP chip technology. Thus, its picture provides 4K UHD resolution. It also provides a stratospheric 3,000,000:1 contrast ratio for enhanced graphics with instant, lag-free response to the golfer’s shots. This color accuracy, along with high resolution, brightness and contrast, immerses the player in a more detailed and realistic golf simulation.

Ease of Installation

BenQ acknowledges that installing golf simulator projectors can be tricky. They can be located in the garage, basement or home theater, or tucked into a small, hard-to-reach area. However, the company states that the projector has a 0.81-0.89 short throw lens with 1.1x zoom capacity. This allows it to be mounted safely outside the swing zone without the player casting a shadow on the screen. Moreover, when the projector needs to be mounted farther away, its digital shrink and offset ensure a crisp, edge-to-edge picture that fills the screen.

Finally, for greater installation flexibility, the LK936ST includes lens shift and other fine-tuning installation tools. These include horizontal and vertical keystone correction, and corner fit. It also has multiple HDMI inputs, and networking and audio I/O for easy interoperability with other entertainment components.

These smart installation features make it easy to create a space that delivers a great golfing experience. It also doubles as a home theater or gaming room. BenQ adds that the LK936ST projector is therefore highly suitable for an entertainment experience.

Hassle-Free, Low Maintenance

The LK936ST is based on the reliability of the single-chip DLP design which is rated to last over 100,000 hours without degradation. Meanwhile, its light source guarantees for 20,000 hours of consistent color, performance, and maintenance-free operation.

BenQ says that viewers can thus enjoy clear images and vivid colors for countless uses. They no longer have to worry about constantly changing expensive lamps or losing color over time.

Furthermore, the laser also allows golfers to play right away, with no need for a lamp to warm up or cool down. It also features a filter-free sealed optical engine that meets the IP5X dustproof rating. This helps eliminate the hassle of cleaning and changing filters required by other projectors. All in all, the LK936ST has a dustproof design. Therefore, even if it’s installed in a dust-prone environment, it will deliver an uncompromised performance.

BenQ highlights the efficacy of the new LK936ST projector in the golf simulation market. According to the company, the market has grown dramatically. Nowadays, new golfers practice their drives more off-course than on the actual fairways and greens. Thus, the projector’s Golf mode and vivid color renders it a versatile performer for home theater and gaming.

In fact, the projector received “Best of Show” by Projector Central at InfoComm 2021. It is also now available for pre-order here.
