This week, NSCA awarded this year’s Per Haugen Lifetime Achievement Award to Jack Toerner, owner of American Sound and Electronics in Covington, KY.
The Per Haugen award recognizes a great leader in the field who demonstrates ethical and honest business practices and a commitment to philanthropy and social responsibility.
Toerner served as president of NSCA for a few years in the 90’s, eventually heading up the NSCA Education Foundation’s first board of directors in 1999. Toerner’s firm, American Sound and Electronics, became the first NSCA Education Foundation donor with a generous gift of $10,000 in honor of Lou Toerner, Jack’s father.
“We’re honored to pay tribute to yet another individual who has been instrumental in moving the industry forward,” says NSCA Executive Director Chuck Wilson. “Jack served as NSCA’s president from 1993 to 1995; he has been supporting the systems integration industry for decades.”
Currently, Toerner continues to lead American Sound and Electronics, helping introduce new technologies to its many customers. Although the company got its start in the pro audio market, it now supplies a wide variety of solutions and services from security to digital signage to video collaboration and more.

“It is an absolute honor to have been selected as a recipient of the NSCA Lifetime Achievement Award,” says Toerner. “As someone who was born and raised in our industry, and as someone who was given the opportunity to serve as NSCA president, I can’t overstate my gratitude – not only for the award, but for NSCA’s continuing excellence as an advocate for me, my team, and for all of us.”
