DraftKings Foxwoods Resort Casino executives recently opened their landmark two-story sportsbook in Mashantucket, Connecticut. The new DraftKings sportsbook is the most immersive in the area featuring 12,000 square feet of non-stop live sports interaction, including a racebook, two full bars, and a 250 top restaurant. The centerpiece of the stadium-like experience is the massive LED videowall. At 50 feet by 30 feet and backing the main level bar, there’s no missing the MVP of DraftKings’ 12th permanent sportsbook build, integrated by McCann Systems.
NBA champion and former Boston Celtic Kendrick Perkins visited DraftKings Foxwoods on the grand opening, exclaiming, “this is good for my soul. They got more TVs than Best Buy here!” Kendrick is right: nearly fifty 4K UHD displays accent the space, central to the casino gaming area. The VIP walls feature 98-inch and 50-inch displays that allow users to program their experience how they see fit.
Another fifty feet of bright, custom 3mm pixel pitch LED show a curved ticker bending around the architecture. LED also crowns the main wagering desk: 20 feet of 2.5mm pitch constantly refreshed with live data. Nine 55-inch displays come together to make another video wall on the first floor, making 16 betting kiosks come to life inside the sportsbook. If that’s not enough, the DraftKings Sportsbook mobile app allows full access from anywhere.
A Successful Partnership
The early results clearly show that this is a win for everyone — bettors and casual sports fans have given the new space rave reviews. Foxwoods tethered their new sportsbook to an immersive entertainment experience with great F&B for guests.
Finally, with 42.7 million in adjusted gross revenue on just the sportsbook side, DraftKings captured about 77% of the new monthly CT market.
McCann Systems has been working with DraftKings for years, and has a foothold in the Northeast, with several offices able to help design and install the 12,000-square-foot sportsbook. McCann has over 40 major sportsbook builds under its belt, and it is picking up the pace, quality, tech advancements, and programming in which it builds them. For instance, this project is DraftKings’ 12th permanent sportsbook, and the firm is working with them on others. In fact, the casino is now working on a Puerto Rico location.
McCann also assisted in a temporary solution while the two-story, 12,000-feet space was being commissioned. The racebook was combined into a race and temporary retail sports betting operation with live-action and betting windows.
The DraftKings Sportsbook at Foxwoods Installation
With December 8th being the official ribbon-cutting, McCann navigated a sea of product availability and supply-chain disruptions to deliver this book in six months. The company broke the installation into six areas of importance: main bar display, VIP rooms, odds boards, tickers, thru space and the headend. Design changes were accepted and swiftly executed as McCann has all the appropriate pieces in-house. From conceptual design and project management to procurement and logistics, this book was done in six months.
The combination sportsbook/restaurant/racebook/destination is crazy popular, especially on football Sundays. This dynamic space, created by McCann Systems, has a superstar in the 50 feet x 30 feet LED screen — one of the biggest in the sportsbook industry. In the first month of operation, the book took in over 70,000 physical bets and paid over $1m in taxes to the state of Connecticut.
