ACT Lighting is on the road with the Katy Perry Tour, illuminating the pop star’s shows with Claypaky Lighting.

The Katy Perry Tour supports the artist’s fifth studio album and third number one U.S. Billboard LP. Meanwhile, behind the stage, lighting operations are powered by Claypaky Lighting Scenius Unico and Scenius Profile products.

The Claypaky Lighting products were selected by the show’s producer and lighting designer, Baz Halpin, of Silent House.

Running through August 2018, Perry’s “Witness: The Tour” travels from North American and Europe to Australia and New Zealand and showcases Perry’s new album Witness.

Perry has so far sold over 100 million records globally, and according to Billboard, her biggest hits are E.T., Firework and California Girls.

Claypaky Lighting Stands Up to Giant Eye

The show producer and lighting designer was given the directive to “create big, strong, powerful looks” that would complement Perry’s show floor.

One of the stage’s key elements is a 130-foot eye-shaped LED screen that mimics some of the artistic elements found within her latest release.

Deploying 80 Scenius Unico and 50 Scenius Profile fixtures supplied by Upstaging, Halpin notes the Claypaky products’ flexibility allow him to create lighting solutions that could produce the necessary light output to standup to the LED screen’s illumination.

“Their [Claypaky] power and versatility made them the perfect choice to stand up to the intense light coming from the LED screen,” explains Halpin.

“As we had 130-foot lighting trusses with a single fixture type on each we needed a fixture that would be versatile enough enough to create a multitude of different looks.”

Over the course of the Katy Perry tour, the Claypaky lighting fixtures have become, “the workhorse of the rig,” Halpin says.

As part of the tour the Claypaky Lighting products are used in all position as aerial effects, key light and follow spots.

“They have been incredibly reliable and resilient,” comments Halpin.
