LG Releases LG MAGNIT, Company’s First Commercially-Available Micro LED Solution

Published: 2020-09-11

LG has released LG MAGNIT, a new 163-inch Micro LED signage solution design to deliver improved picture quality and durability and streamlined installation for commercial AV professionals.

The display, LG’s first commercial Micro LED release, features self-emissive micrometer-scale pixels applied directly to the substrate board, allowing it to deliver sharp images with improved contrast and a wide viewing angle, according to the company.

LG MAGNIT also utilizes LG’s Black Coating technology on the front of the displays to improve contrast and color accuracy while helping to protect tiny LED pixels from the elements while also minimizing distracting reflections and making cleaning easier.

According to the company’s website, the LG MAGNIT delivers deeper black than conventional LED solutions by removing a package surrounding R, G, B LED chips and applying LG’s Black Coating technology.

“This not only enhances color vividness, but also makes the details which were hidden in the shadows appear, providing audiences a sense of immersion,” the company says on its website.

LG is targeting convention centers, corporate and hotel lobbies, luxury boutiques, broadcast studios, control rooms, exhibit halls and museums, as well as home cinemas for luxury consumers seeking 163 inches of 4K resolution.

The technology is also boosted by an intelligent image processor found in start-of-the-art LG TVs that analyzes content and source to automatically optimize visual output in real time.

The display also features LG’s webOS, the company’s smart signage control platform.

Each Micro LED cabinet is only 23.6 inches wide by 13.3 inches high by 1.8 inches deep. It links simply to other cabinets, allowing for streamlined installation of large-scale displays on site.

In addition, LG’s non-contact connector technology allows for the sending and receiving of wireless signals. The company’s block-assembly design allows power to be sent to each cabinet via pin connectors on the edges of the LED cabinet hub.

The solution also reduces time needed for cable management since only a few wires on the back of the displays link to the cabinets to system controllers and power supplies.
