It was Captain Kirk who once declared, “Space is the final frontier.” In a steady, relentless pursuit of this goal, NASA recently completed a test flight of the highly publicized Orion spacecraft this past December.

Helping to safeguard America’s quest to navigate the stars is the Marietta, Ga.-based manufacturer DVIGear. As part of the launch of the test flight, DVIGear’s MXP Series of digital video routing switchers were used in the Orion’s command center, which was built by NASA contractor Lockheed Martin’s Orion Management subcontractor arm.

According to Dale Cicirelli, Florida division manager of Orion Management, DVIGear’s contributions to the Orion Exploration Flight Test (EFT-1) was crucial to the success of the project.

“I needed a solid solution for my customer,” he explains. “DVIGear provided equipment was used to control and distribute the video and data images required by the Test Launch and Control Center and played a crucial role in managing the Orion spacecraft during EFT-1.”

Among the DVIGear MXP Series products used in the command center is the company’s 33×33 matrix switcher. Steven Barlow, president of DVIGear, says Orion Management’s installation and usage of its products underscores his company’s commitment to engineer the best possible products for the most demanding applications.

“We are thrilled to have played a part in this important moment for space exploration,” says Barlow.  “The Orion mission objectives are critical to gaining a better understanding of our world and our solar system. This project aligns perfectly with DVIGear’s dedication to the advancement and communication of knowledge. We are proud to be a part of the team.”
