Video walls are a big investment. These days a lot of customers from various markets with diverse budgets are making those big investments.
Lower LED display costs have enabled more organizations to leverage video walls for branding, communication, advertising or whatever their unique needs might be – but for most, the investment is still formidable. The pressure is on video wall providers – integration firms and manufacturers – to protect their customers’ return on investment (ROI).
The process of protecting ROI starts with focusing instead on return on objective. Richard G. Hill, national LED display solutions manager, Digital Projection, Inc., echoes that ideal.
“Prior to a conversation about ROI we generally like to talk about an objective and a purpose,” he says. Manufacturers and integrators, he says, should gain a “full understanding of what the main purpose is that this display is supposed to serve.”
It’s just as important, Hill adds, to understand what kind of content will be displayed on the video wall.
Video Wall ROI Can Be Lost Due to Poor Planning
When it comes to protecting video wall ROI it really comes down to planning properly and executing. The first step in planning, obviously, is understanding the customer’s return on objective. “Planning carefully for the objective of the display, understanding what type of content will be shown on it — those are the very fundamentals of it,” Hill says.
“The actual execution of the install is so critical,” Hill says.
Then the integrator has an opportunity to secure the customer’s ROI by being extremely efficient during the installation process, minimizing labor costs and time spent.
“From there it’s all about planning and execution,” Hill says. “Spending lots of time before you ever get on site for an installation is very important; working with your partners to ensure that all of the site readiness is prepared in terms of the electrical and structural. Everyone should know what the game plan is before anyone shows up on site to do an installation. Then the actual execution of the install is so critical.”
