Tenn. Electric Corp. Ramps Up Control Room Efficiency
Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation (MTEMC) provides electricity to 205,000 residents within four major counties, and covers 2,100 square miles of service territory. As a cooperative, MTEMC refers to its customers as “members,”and with significant growth and 80-year history, has become the state of Tennessee’s largest electric corporation.
MTEMC stakeholders knew they needed to update their 24/7 control room monitoring system, in order to more efficiently serve their members and increase productivity for a reasonable cost.
Used primarily to monitor its Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and outage management system, MTEMC’s control room also oversees security monitoring, a constant weather map, and feeds from several cable sources.
Much of the company’s success has come to rest on the control room capabilities, and the space needed a technology refresh. MTEMC turned to rpVisual Solutions (RPV), which has specialized in 24/7 displays and prided itself on personalized service for over a decade.
RPV worked closely with MTEMC to assess the monitoring system, taking into account the customer’s wants and needs. RPV suggested a video wall application made up of Christie Digital Entero HB SXGA+ light engines and lenses and Christie Phoenix network-based processing solution.Christie Entero HB offers high brightness, 24/7 performance and reliability, all with an overall low cost of ownership and operation. According to Christie, the rear-projection engine is also the only LED control room display to deliver wireless control, allowing users to make adjustments, control the LED wall or perform diagnostic monitoring through an iPad or other wireless devices via Wi-Fi.
